The Zodiac Club #6: Full Moon in Aquarius
Tonight's Full Moon in Aquarius offers an opportunity to access your networks, revisit knowledge and wisdom, and find yourself in light of other's expectations.
Hauntology Now! is the Substack of interdisciplinary artist, designer, musician, academic writer, and cultural critic J. Simpson, where he writes about all things hauntological, atemporal, philosophical, as well as sharing thoughts, reflections, and musings on music, movies, books, and life.
The Sturgeon Moon over the Temple of Poseidon.
Tonight’s Full Moon is going to be a Triple Whammy. First an most headline grabbing, August 19 marks the beginning of the Democratic National Convention, where democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and VP Tim Walz will ride in on a wave of optimism we’ve not seen in American politics in some time. Aquarius is the sign of groups, networks, the crowd it’s very interesting indeed the Full Moon should grace the beginning of the DNC.
Secondly, Monday’s Full Moon is also a Blue Moon, which is when a season has three Full Moons, which happens infrequently (this the phrase “once in a Blue Moon.” It’s also going to be interacting with Retrograde Mercury in Leo, which is in opposition. While this Full Moon promises to be technologically and socially significant, be on the lookout for tech outages tomorrow. The Full Moon in opposition to Mercury Retrograde in Leo seems to suggest that although it may be tempting to speak, it might be a better time to go inwards and assess.
Full Moons are a time of renewal and release. They offer an opportunity to assess what’s important to you and what no longer serves your needs. Being an Air sign, Aquarius invites you to thinking about learning, knowledge, and wisdom. Tonight’s Full Moon in Aquarius invites you to think about the communities and networks you belong to, inviting you to contemplate what’s serving you and what isn’t. Does your community encourage you to be yourself? To share your thoughts, ideas, and opinions? Do they value you? Do they help you to be more yourself, helping you to find mental, emotional, and practical space to be creative and enrich yourself and your life?
Finally, the Sturgeon Moon - the traditional name for the August Full Moon - encourages questioning tradition, which is really just social networks, knowledge, and wisdom from other ages. You’re best able to participate in communities and networks when you’re being true to yourself. If you’re not, the truth will out as they say. This August Full Moon in Aquarius offers an opportunity to pan through the silt and debris you’ve inherited in search of emeralds.
To be honest, there’s been quite a bit of writing about this particular Full Moon, and also about Aquarius in general, that i don’t fully understand yet. Full Moons are often times for ceremonies and spellwork for healing, growth, and renewal. So i’m scheduling this newsletter to publish the exact moment the moon goes completely full - a prayer sent out into the universe like a burning arrow. May it all help us find one another. May it help light the way towards a better life for ourselves and the rest of the Earth’s inhabitants.
