Today, the annular ring of fire eclipse occurred in Libra from 11;42 AM EST to 5:47 PM EST, forging the next link in the chain of solar eclipses that began on April 20, 2023. Today's eclipse in Libra conjuncts Mercury as well as the South Node, concluding the energy that began last April. The North and South Nodes have to deal with karma and destiny, with the North Node representing where we're heading and the South Node signifying lessons we've learned and are ready to move on from. The South Node in Libra suggests we've learned the necessary lessons about Relationships, Compromise, and Aesthetics. We're ready to begin a new chapter, where we're less filtered and censorious and more fully ourselves, damn the consequences.
Authenticity and filtering are two things i think about constantly as an artist and a critic. Both require you to walk a tightrope over the abyss, as too be TOO self-involved is to be self-indulgent and narcissistic. Chasing trends too far makes your art feel shallow, superficial, and brittle, though. For critics, it defangs any ability to truly engage with a work of art apart from technical observations or market analysis. To talk about the world we're living in, you've got to peek your head out of the foxhole. It's an inherently risky act. It's no mistake that so many cultures have rules and mores about attracting notice to one's self.
As of today, we are beginning a new chapter - one where we're able to move and speak more freely, get more real. Signs suggest this may not be the smoothest of transitions, given that the main show is also Square with Mars in Cancer, a tumultuous combo if ever there was one. If ever there were a time for restraint of tongue and pen, this is it. Old slights may be re-emerging, and you might be starting to notice all the ways that yr haunted by the ghosts of old trauma. The Solar Eclipse conjunction Mercury indicates that communication will play an important part in the energies, going forward, but for the moment it may be better to keep them in a journal rather than on social media or a business email.
Today's Solar Eclipse invites you to investigate all the ways yr holding yrself back, all the ways you filter and censor yrself to lie in the Procrustean bed of societal expectations. While South Node eclipses have more to do with removal than creation, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury are opening a pathway towards a more successful, fulfilling life. Just remember to buckle up and hold on!
